David Whelan
David qualified with an engineering degree, BSc. in Mechanical Engineering from The Dublin Institute of Technology, Bolton Street in 1993 and with an MBA from The Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business, UCD in 2000. He has over sixteen years experience across various industry sectors such as electronics, semiconductors, building services and waste management. He has worked in product innovation, design, new product introduction and transfer, and supply chain management.
He has also contributed to Sustainability Journal on the subject of food miles and energy use and Best Practice magazine on the subject of ERP systems. He has been involved at community level in sustainability and Transition Town initiatives.
With a passion for the environment and helping client companies understand the benefits of integrating sustainability across their organisations, David believes that is only a matter of time before industry recognises the benefit of integrating commerce with the environment as a means to promote social and technological benefit, whilst simultaneously decreasing costs and increasing market share.
Caithriona McCarthy
Caithriona graduated from University College Dublin in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and in 1991 from The Michael Smurfit Business School with a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Studies, specialising in International Marketing.
Following time spent in Spain working in International Marketing, Caithriona returned to Dublin and set up a knitwear company which she managed for 7 years.
A change of sector in 2000 led Caithriona to the NGO world where she worked with Concern Worldwide for a period of 6 years. In 2006 she set up as a freelance Project Manager, pre-dominantly in the NGO sector, specialising in research, marketing and communications. Her move to BUAN is a natural step given the increasing importance of the environment and its impacts on the developing world.
